AVID magazine –The wow factor
An extract from AVID magazine October 2006
Your ‘space’ should be an extension of your personality, says interior designer Chris Bicknell.
Bicknell Interiors in Walton on the Hill is a ‘breath of fresh air’ according to customers who have used the design team’s services.
The company was set up by husband and wife team Chris and Barbara Bicknell three years ago.
Chris is the creative director, while Barbara deals with account and project management. Together they work with interior designer Helen Harlow.
In addition, Bicknell Interiors which is based at the Old Rectory at Breach Lane, uses a highly qualified and skilled team of motivated craftsmen and women.
Fully aware of the obstacles involved in achieving a client’s dream home. Bicknell Interiors has accumulated a wealth of resources to support the services they need.
Costs range from £750 for an initial ‘mood board’, which will set out what designers propose doing and can go up to £150,000 for some projects such as conservatories and orangeries. But generally the service costs around £15,000 a room.
Bicknell Interiors has worked on homes throughout Surrey and south west London, with each house being a unique project. One football fan, for example, asked for the study of his home in Reigate to reflect his love of Arsenal Football Club, so designers incorporated the wine and claret colours, used to marked the Clubs’ centenary last year, into the scheme.
Chris who had 25 years’ experience in graphic and interior design before setting up the company, believes that ‘your space’ should be an extension of your personality.
He said: “A real home means pure comfort. At Bicknell Interiors, our ethos focuses on practical laid back living, incorporating the natural architectural assets of the space.”
Barbara said: “From our research, we discovered that our business model is quite unique; outstanding conceptual interior design, combined with an implementation service across all the trades. Our levels of personal service are high and we fulfil the needs of clients who in today’s hectic schedule are time-poor.
“Our clients openly admit to us that they are put off renovations and bespoke design because of the hassle factor and co-ordination problems and we are, according to our clients, ‘a breath of fresh air’, taking away the problems and issues and allowing clients to enjoy the process of homemaking.”
Chris added: “We are designing real homes and for us that means considering comfort and practicality along with aesthetics. We want to achieve the ‘wow’ factor - but it has to suit the way our clients live. An interior designer provides ideas you might never have thought of.
The key is to narrow those bewildering choices that have to be made; avoid expensive mistakes and keep the project both on budget and on time.”
Helen says: “A consultation with us will take you back to the basics. The correct combination of colours, fabrics, flooring and furniture matched with lighting to suit the mood of the space equals a very personal scheme, unique to the client.’
“Bicknell Interiors can inspire you with individually tailored refreshing changes that will add value as well as style to your home.”
